Law Student Center

As a full-time or part-time law student at any law school in the country, you are invited to join our association of over 5,600 lawyers, judges, paralegals, and law firm administrators. BAMSL exists to benefit its members as well as to serve the legal profession and the public-at-large.

As of May 1, 2008, law school students joining BAMSL receive complimentary membership for three years. Please see the following information about joining BAMSL as a law student and the benefits of doing so:

BAMSL consists of 39 standing committees, 15 sections, and 1 division. The association offers benefits to all its members (including law student members) which include sophisticated continuing legal education programs, the St. Louis Bar Journal and St. Louis Lawyer magazines, access to the Point of View restaurant, and professional development and public service opportunities. BAMSL is a leading voice for the organized bar in legislative, governmental and public affairs.

The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) is a network of lawyers interested in career advancement, public service, leadership training and social interaction with lawyers of all ages. All members of BAMSL under the age of 36 or who have been practicing law less than 5 years automatically become members of the YLD. In addition, all law student members are also automatically members of YLD.

Our Young Lawyers Division provides programs and services responsive to the needs of the bar and the St. Louis community. This division is governed by an executive committee of young lawyers elected by the YLD membership every year, along with committee chairs appointed by the YLD chairperson, and is an active affiliate of the YLD of the American Bar Association and the Young Lawyers’ Section of The Missouri Bar.

Members perform valuable service projects for those in need in the St. Louis community. Several YLD public service programs have received national and statewide recognition, while assisting elderly, young, disabled, homeless, abused, and terminally ill individuals and groups. Repeatedly in recent years, YLD has received Awards of Achievement and Awards of Merit for individual projects and the quality of its overall programs.

The YLD assists lawyers in adapting to the ever-changing and demanding legal profession by offering opportunities to remain updated on new law and pertinent issues facing the legal profession through Continuing Legal Education seminars.

Members may also serve as faculty for CLE seminars; develop leadership skills through participation in YLD and BAMSL committees; plan/participate in public service projects throughout the community; and network with attorneys of all ages by attending social events.

In addition, planning and participating in the numerous YLD activities and committees is an excellent way to strengthen leadership skills and network with lawyers, judges, and leaders in the community.
BAMSL's Young Lawyers Division sponsors the following programs/events and professional development opportunities:
